An Introduction to the WAX OIG

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) serves as a watchdog agency for the WAX Network. It acts as a neutral third-party designated to evaluate WAX Guild Candidates’ contribution to the ecosystem and provide ongoing transparency for the community. The Office of Inspector General is a committee with three members who standardize WAX Guild evaluations and properly recognize WAX Guild Candidates making valuable contributions to the WAX ecosystem. The committee members (IGs) are elected individually from and by the community, contributing to further decentralizing the WAX Network.

The IGs collaborate to handle the responsibilities of the office, issuing detailed criteria, evaluation parameters, scoring mechanisms, and more.

Inspector General Mission

The mission of the inspector general is to provide quantitative and qualitative assessments of WAX Guild Candidates on a continuous and transparent basis in order to:

• Assist WAX Token holders in their guild voting decision-making.
• Objectively and consistently evaluating all WAX Guild Candidates across a standard set of relevant performance criteria.
• Ensure Active and Standby Guilds are paid in alignment with their evaluation and appointed position.

Inspector General Selection Process

The selection process for the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) within the WAX Community is as follows:

• Elections are held every six months, with each Inspector General serving an 18-month term.
• As soon as a new IG is elected, the previous IG’s tenure ends and they are rotated out.
• The rotation of OIG seats takes place on the first day of February and August every year.
• The OIG is compensated in WAX Tokens and their salary is paid out of the WAX Worker Proposal fund.

Office of Inspector General Responsibilities

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:

• Publishing regular evaluations of all qualified Guild Candidates.
• Continually improving and updating the OIG Evaluation Framework.
• Monitoring, testing, and reviewing products submitted by Guilds.
• Enhancing the workflow and representation of the OIG.
• Mentoring and advising Guilds on products and infrastructure.
• Coordinating and overseeing the ongoing development of the WAX Blockchain in collaboration with the WAX Core Team, including both technical and governance aspects.
• Proposing changes to the chain or governance and coordinating with the Guild roster.
• Reviewing and supervising WAX Labs projects.
• Preparing and editing educational content.

Inspector General Candidate Requirements

To effectively serve in the Office of Inspector General, technical proficiency is required. While IGs can acquire skills on the job and work collaboratively, each IG must take on specific tasks and responsibilities. The areas that IGs must cover include:

• Communication — Fluency in English is essential for both internal and external communication.
• Proactivity — Each IG must be self-motivated and actively engage in tasks.
• Blockchain Governance — Understanding how Blockchain ecosystems and communities function is crucial for taking on a leadership role in the ecosystem.
• Development — The OIG must have the ability to develop its own tools and solutions, which requires an understanding of design, smart contracts, front-end development, and back-end solutions. Knowledge of development flows, an understanding of smart contracts, and the ability to read source code are also required to properly evaluate Guild Candidate submissions and track progress throughout project lifecycles, as well as assess the needs of the community and developers joining the ecosystem.
• DevOps and OpSec — As the OIG is self-sustained, it must be able to act autonomously.
• Project Management — Managing internal projects or overseeing Guild Candidate contributions is key.
• Vision — Understanding where the ecosystem is heading and knowing its needs and shortcomings is vital to enhancing guidelines and integrations. The Guidelines steer the direction Guilds contribute and build toward. Evaluating existing contributions often requires seeing the broader picture.
• Poise — Whether it be heated internal discussions or external communication, being an IG means staying level-headed and expressing one’s standpoint clearly, even when attacked, while at the same time evaluating the attacker without bias.

It’s important to note that IG candidates must not run or be directly affiliated with any active Guild Candidates to prevent conflicts of interest.
